Please could someone tell me how I would go about transfering 8mm to DV. I heard all different stories, really i need a kind of cheap way of doing it. Any replies will be greatly appreciated.

your best bet, if you don't want to spend the rest of your life and/or the rest of your money, is to go to a "semi professional" transfer facility and just let them take care of it. i recommend "karlstad film till video" in sweden. they charge about ?4 per roll, and they do speak english. ;-)

I don't agree with Mattias here. You can make good hometransfers using a 3CCD camera running the shutter at 1/50 and the aparture at aproximatly 4 and adjust the whitebalance as you move on. Also, very important is that you have the ability to manually adjust the speed on your projector. Even better, you have the ability to digitally sharpen the picture and adjust the colours digitally from within your camera. Try and you will learn. It's not that hard if you have the equipment.

actually, i did say "if you *don't* want to spend the rest of your life and/or the rest of your money." getting a variable speed projector and a 3 ccd camera and learn how to set them up and use them will cost you the same in time and money as sending several hundred rolls to kftv. even if you have all the equipment, you should consider that ?4 is nothing and that the results will probably be better. what would you say would be the advantage of doing it yourself, one that is valid for a rather clueless beginner?
